Pakistan to play tri-series in dubia

Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh will be featuring in the tri-series in Dubai Sports City in April, Pakistan coach Intikhab Alam said on Saturday. He said Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have signed a three-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Dubai Sports City and dates for the event are being worked out.

KARACHI: Sri Lanka qualified for the final round when they held Pakistan to a 2-2 draw in Group D match of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Challenge Cup Qualifiers at the Sugathadasa Sports Complex in Colombo on Wednesday. With the draw Pakistan are left with a minimal chance to make it in the eight-team main round as the best second placed side from the respective four groups. The national junior women hockey team left the Jinnah International airport here this morning for Kuala Lumpur. Pakistan will play the first match of the event on December 13 against Thailand. The Pakistan team has been placed in group ‘A’ along with Japan, China, Malaysia and Thailand. Captain of Pakistan team Sehrish Ghumman said that she is hopeful that her team would perform well in the tournament.

Queensland speedster Burdekin Blues can notch his biggest career win when he ventures to Sydney for today's Group 2 Expressway Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill (race 5).
The lightly-raced gelding, a son of Sequalo, is trained by Barry Baldwin who has always felt the talented galloper has a big win in him.
Burdekin Blues has had just 10 career starts for six wins, three minors and a fourth.
Nine of those starts were last campaign where Baldwin pretty much gave him three weeks to a month between runs, carefully placing him to effect in Queensland with great success.

The history of sport probably extends as far back as the existence of people as purposive beings. Sport has been a useful way for people to increase their mastery of nature and the environment. The history of sport can teach us a great deal about social changes and about the nature of sport itself. Sport seems to involve basic human skills being developed and exercised for their own sake, in parallel with being exercised for their usefulness. It also shows how society has changed its beliefs and therefore there are changes in the rules. Of course, as we go further back in history the dwindling evidence makes the the theories of the origins and purposes of sport difficult to support.
